Message from the chargé d'affaires of the Permanent Mission of Afghanistan to the United Nations
Welcome to the official website of the Permanent Mission of Afghanistan to the United Nations.
Afghanistan is a nation of ancient civilization, enduring resilience, and profound dignity. For decades, the Afghan people have suffered from imposed wars and protracted conflict. Today, the country stands in the midst of a deepening crisis. Since August 2021, following the Taliban’s takeover, the Afghan people have faced a systematic assault on their rights and freedoms: women and girls barred from schools, universities, and public life; civil society silenced; and a humanitarian crisis worsening with each passing day. We are now in the fifth consecutive academic year in which an entire generation of Afghan girls has been denied access to secondary and higher education—not by circumstance, but by deliberate policy imposed by the Taliban. This is not only a national tragedy; it is a direct challenge to the conscience of the international community.
And yet, the Afghan people endure. Their resilience is not passive. It is reflected daily in acts of courage, in the preservation of hope, and in an unwavering belief that justice, dignity, and opportunity must ultimately prevail.
This Mission carries that conviction into the halls of the United Nations. We engage actively across the Security Council, the General Assembly, the Human Rights Council, and the full spectrum of multilateral fora where Afghanistan’s future is discussed and shaped. We advocate with clarity and resolve for accountability, the protection of fundamental human rights, inclusive and representative governance, and a credible political process that reflects the will and diversity of the Afghan people—not the imposition of power by force.
We are grateful for the principled solidarity of Member States, United Nations entities, civil society organizations, and individuals around the world who recognize that the rights of Afghan women, men, and children are not negotiable—and that silence in the face of their violation is not neutrality.
We urge the international community to stand with the people of Afghanistan and not abandon them. We invite you to support our work, engage with our statements and publications, and follow our advocacy at the United Nations and to stand, in whatever way you can, in solidarity with the people of Afghanistan.
